Athlete Health, Safety & Safeguarding

The World Pickleball Federation is committed to the health, safety, and well-being of every athlete. Our Safeguarding Framework aligns with the IOC Consensus Statements on Athlete Health Protection, the IOC Safe Sport Policy, and the Fundamental Principles of Olympism.

Guiding principles

• Integrity — every athlete deserves an environment free from abuse, harassment, and exploitation.
• Respect — all participants are treated with fairness and dignity, regardless of age, gender, or background.
• Accountability — every official, coach, and staff member shares responsibility for a culture of safety.
• Prevention first — education, awareness, and proactive measures are the cornerstone of safeguarding.
• Transparency — allegations are handled promptly, independently, and fairly.

Athlete health & well-being

Official WPF events require accredited medical personnel and access to emergency facilities. Athletes at international events undergo medical clearance, and certified return-to-play protocols apply after injury or illness. Heat and hydration policies protect athletes in high-temperature regions. WPF also provides confidential access to mental-health resources and education on stress management and athlete well-being.

Safeguarding & athlete protection

WPF has adopted a Global Safeguarding Policy consistent with the IOC framework on Safeguarding Athletes from Harassment and Abuse. It applies to all athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, and staff, across events, training camps, and online platforms — and defines abuse broadly to include sexual harassment, emotional abuse, neglect, bullying, and discrimination.

• A WPF Safeguarding Officer oversees compliance and is the main point of contact for concerns.
• An independent Safeguarding & Welfare Committee handles reports and monitors implementation.
• Continental and national federations appoint safeguarding focal points aligned to WPF policy.

Reporting & protection

Concerns can be raised through multiple channels — email, a confidential web form, and an anonymous hotline. Whistle-blowers are protected from retaliation. All reports are acknowledged within 48 hours, with a preliminary investigation beginning within seven days and outcomes communicated transparently. Serious matters may be appealed to the WPF Ethics Commission or referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Monitoring & continuous improvement

The Safeguarding & Welfare Committee reviews cases and compliance annually. National federations must evidence safeguarding implementation to remain in good standing, and annual athlete surveys inform continuous improvement. WPF collaborates with the IOC Safe Sport Unit, UNICEF, and WADA on education and best practice.
